Ministerial Statements describe government policies and matters of public importance. Ministerial Statements are read in sequence with the Order of Business paper. A Ministers will provide through their statements to the House, updates and their plans for certain endeavours within their Ministry. It may also contain announcements of national and international events or crisis. Ministerial Statements do not contain personal attacks, they cannot criticise the Opposition, which comes under Standing Order 19.
After all Ministers have given their statements, members can ask questions during Question Period regarding certain details within their statement. Statements must be given to the Clerk to the Legislature by 5 p.m. the day before the meeting.
