Senator Tannock is the Managing Director of the Skuld Bermuda companies and is also President of the Board of Hydra Insurance Company Ltd., which reinsures 90% of the world's ocean-going tonnage. Prior to entering the private sector, she worked in the Civil Service, as a Crown Counsel, Probation Officer and Drug Treatment Court Case Manager. Tawana, a former M3 history teacher, was nominated for Teacher of the Year during her tenure at Whitney institute Middle School. She is the former Executive Director of the Centre for Alcohol and Drug Abuse Prevention (CADA), where she advised on Government policy and became Bermuda’s first certified TIPS trainer. Tawana is past Chairperson of the Human Rights Commission. During her six-year tenure she presided over tribunals covering harassment and discrimination and in one landmark judgement, she recommended amendment to the Human Rights Act, which was adopted and passed in parliament.

Tawana is a barrister; she is called to the Bar of England and Whales and the Bermuda Bar. She holds a BA in History and Political Science, Spelman College and an MA in Legal Studies, University of Bristol, in addition to the Chartered Property Casualty Underwriter (CPCU), Associate in Claims Management (AIC-M) and ACIArb (Associate of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators). She is dedicated to community involvement and has served on charitable, private sector and government boards. Some of her current roles are, a Deputy Chairperson of ABIC, a Governor of Warwick Academy, and on the Bermuda Medical Council. In recognition of her various contributions Tawana was once voted by Bernews as 'One of The Ten Most Fascinating People in Bermuda.'
